Arts Council England

Arts Council England funds a broad spectrum of creative activity across England, including music, theatre, dance, visual arts, literature, combined arts, museums and libraries. It supports work that engages the public, nurtures talent and strengthens communities, with a particular focus on children and young people, diverse communities and those who may be isolated. Funding can support project delivery, training, research and capital works such as equipment and building improvements. The Council also prioritises creativity that improves wellbeing, brings people together and demonstrates environmental responsibility.

Organisations based in England, including registered charities and companies, can apply for funding. The Council welcomes applications from grassroots groups and larger organisations alike, with a strong emphasis on work that benefits children and young people, diverse communities and those who are isolated. Applicants should demonstrate how their project engages the public and delivers artistic quality. There is no restriction based on religion.

The Council does not fund statutory education, further or higher education projects, or activities that primarily generate income by offering goods or services on a market for a commercial fee. It also excludes projects that take place in or with an educational establishment with limited public benefit, as well as ineligible equipment or asset purchases not aligned with its priorities.

Arts Council England funds through open programmes and strategic investments, offering both project grants and multi-year capital support. Some programmes require partnership funding. The Council welcomes unsolicited applications and favours work that demonstrates public benefit, artistic quality and community impact, rather than conventional social services.
