Ashmolean Museum Endowment Trust

The Trust funds a range of activities that support the Ashmolean Museum's strategic priorities. This includes endowed senior curatorships, conservation projects (such as the conservation of Powhatan's Mantle), gallery renovations (for example, the Ashmolean Story Gallery), research initiatives, and public outreach for schools, families, researchers, and underrepresented groups. It also supports core operations in collections care and innovative curatorial practice. All funded work advances the museum's roles in teaching, research, and enjoyment for diverse audiences. The Trust supports preservation of cultural heritage, academic research, and inclusive education. While the museum is based in Oxford, the reach of its collections and programmes extends nationally and internationally.

Eligibility is highly restrictive: only the Ashmolean Museum itself qualifies as the sole beneficiary of the Trust. The Trust does not accept unsolicited applications from external organisations, charities, or individuals. There are no income, size, or religious restrictions beyond alignment with the museum's mission. The Trust's funding is directed entirely to the museum's strategic priorities, and no other entities are eligible to apply. Beneficiary groups reached through the museum's work include schools, families, researchers, and underrepresented groups, but these groups do not apply directly to the Trust.

The Trust does not fund any activities outside the remit of the Ashmolean Museum. It does not support other charities, organisations, or individuals. It does not accept unsolicited applications from external parties. All funding is exclusively for the museum's collections, research, conservation, education, and public engagement programmes.

The Trust provides secure, permanent funding through its endowment, investing funds to sustain the museum's long-term priorities. Allocations are internal decisions made by the Trust board and museum leadership. The Trust does not have public grant rounds or application processes; it works solely by invitation and internal agreement. Funding supports endowed posts, conservation, gallery renovations, research, and public outreach, as well as core operations. The Trust's partnership with the University of Oxford ensures that donor support is channelled into the museum's perpetuity.
