Bromley Trust

The Bromley Trust, an independent grant-making charity established in 1989 by Toby Bromley, is dedicated to offsetting 'man's inhumanity to man' by advancing human rights, UK prison reform, and environmental conservation—now streamlined into two core programmes: Human Rights (protecting marginalised people at risk in the UK) and Prison Reform (fostering a humane, rehabilitative justice system). Rooted in values of dignity, transparency, collaboration, and trust-based relationships, it prioritises systemic change through specialist UK charities, offering flexible, multi-year unrestricted funding to build organisational resilience and enable responsive work like advocacy, strategic litigation, policy campaigns, capacity building, and community support for prisoners, ex-offenders, and those facing discrimination or rights threats.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities with annual incomes of £100,000–£1.2 million, delivering UK-wide impact across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland; no religious restrictions apply, and unsolicited applications are welcomed via an initial eligibility quiz and online form.

Grants typically range from £15,000–£30,000 annually (totaling £45,000–£90,000 over three years), with biannual trustee meetings in January and July; the next deadline is 26 September 2025, followed by shortlisting by 10 October, assessments in November, and decisions by 26 January 2026. The Trust stands out for minimising reporting burdens, deep grantee engagement, Living Wage commitment, and aversion to capital, emergency, or seed funding—favouring transformative, collaborative efforts by resilient organisations like the Prison Reform Trust over short-term or piecemeal interventions.
