Bupa Foundation

The foundation supports projects that create or improve green spaces in urban areas, particularly in London, Brighton, Leeds, Greater Manchester (especially Salford), Dublin and Glasgow. Priority is given to neighbourhoods in the top 20% most deprived according to official indices. Funded activities include developing community gardens, sensory gardens, outdoor classrooms and other green infrastructure. The work must clearly demonstrate how it improves people's physical and mental health. Projects can take place across the UK, the Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands. Costs covered include project delivery, equipment and capital works, but not core costs or research.

Registered charities, community groups, schools, community benefit societies and community interest companies (without shares) based in the UK, Republic of Ireland or Channel Islands may apply. The foundation prioritises projects that benefit children, young people, disabled people and the wider public. Organisations should be rooted in the areas they serve, especially those in deprived urban neighbourhoods. Profit-making organisations and private fee-paying schools are not eligible.

The foundation does not support core costs or overheads, research projects, academic posts or bursaries, school trips or gap year projects, conferences and events, fundraising activities, work already completed, or overseas appeals. Political donations, promotion of religious causes, and projects delivered by individuals are also excluded. Long-term projects, profit-making activities, and community interest companies with shares are not funded.

The foundation makes single-year project grants, not multi-year commitments. Match funding is not required. They welcome unsolicited applications and fund practical, place-based initiatives that deliver measurable health benefits through green space improvements.
