Charles Plater Trust

The Trust funds three priorities: leadership development for laypeople, social action projects delivering tangible outcomes for people experiencing poverty, exclusion, or vulnerability, and applied research that informs policy and practice. It supports work across England and Wales, with projects delivering direct local benefit. Examples include CST training, programmes for prisoners, disadvantaged girls, domestic abuse survivors, and mentoring for people with learning disabilities. The Trust funds project revenue costs only, with a focus on outcome tracking and beneficiary journeys.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities or academic institutions based in England or Wales, with projects delivering direct local benefit. The Trust supports both religious and non-religious initiatives that demonstrate alignment with CST. It prefers organisations with incomes described qualitatively as mid-sized, and welcomes unsolicited applications. Organisations with multiple concurrent grants are not eligible.

The Trust does not fund capital costs, core funding unless it is embedded within a project, non-charities, or work outside England or Wales. It also does not support organisations with multiple concurrent grants.

The Trust funds project revenue costs only, typically over a period of two years. It welcomes unsolicited applications and supports both religious and non-religious initiatives that align with CST. The Trust emphasises evidence-based impact and rigorous measurement in its funding approach.
