David Snowdon Trust

The Trust funds higher education initiatives such as apprenticeship schemes and skills development programmes tackling youth unemployment. It supports social needs projects alleviating rural poverty, food insecurity, and isolation for low-income families. Arts programmes nurture early-career talent through creative training, sponsorships, and equipment. Funded activities include innovative educational programmes, capital resources for training equipment, peer mentoring, and community-led apprenticeships. All funding is concentrated in Cumbria, particularly the Westmorland and Furness Council area, including Barrow, Eden, and South Lakeland.

Registered charities and community groups based in or serving Cumbria, especially within Westmorland and Furness, are eligible. The Trust prioritises organisations working with disadvantaged youth, rural families, and aspiring artists facing access barriers. Applicants should have strong local roots and a clear focus on the region. There is no religious restriction.

The Trust does not fund building projects or revenue-only requests that lack a sustainability plan. National charities without direct beneficiaries in Cumbria are excluded, as the focus is on deeply local grassroots organisations.

The Trust welcomes unsolicited applications from eligible organisations. It provides grants for specific projects and initiatives, emphasising locally-led interventions that build self-reliance. Funding is directed towards capital resources, training equipment, and programme costs rather than ongoing revenue.
