Educational Opportunity Foundation

The foundation funds education-focused projects across the UK, covering a range of activities including project delivery, capital works, equipment, training, research, and core costs. It prioritises work that improves access to education for vulnerable children, enhances the quality of teaching through innovative approaches, and strengthens education systems by empowering local communities. There is a preference for projects that involve matched funding, engage local stakeholders, and consider environmental sustainability. The foundation supports work benefiting children, young people, women, and refugees, aiming to address barriers to learning and create lasting educational opportunities.

The Educational Opportunity Foundation accepts applications from registered charities based anywhere in the UK. The foundation prioritises organisations that work with children, young people, women, and refugees – particularly those facing vulnerability or marginalisation. Charities that demonstrate a strong connection to the communities they serve and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and sustainable impact are encouraged to apply. There is no religious restriction on eligible organisations.

The foundation does not fund events, transport costs, or statutory education services. It also excludes bursaries, scholarships, summer camps, expeditions, volunteering, conferences, and international travel. These exclusions reflect the foundation's focus on project-based educational interventions and core support for charities, rather than individual awards or one-off activities.

The foundation makes multi-year grants, typically supporting projects of up to three years. It has a preference for matched funding, local stakeholder engagement, and environmental sustainability. Both core costs and project costs can be covered. The foundation is particularly interested in innovative, evidence-based approaches that address systemic barriers to education.
