The Trust funds work that relieves poverty and hardship within its defined area of benefit. Grants support a range of charitable purposes for both individuals and organisations operating in or serving the communities of Barnet and East Barnet. The causes funded are limited to poverty-related needs, including support for elderly people, those experiencing disability, and others in financial hardship. The Trust requires that all beneficiaries live within the specified postal code areas – principally the old Urban Districts of Chipping Barnet and East Barnet. This local focus means the Trust primarily supports activities that directly improve the wellbeing of residents in this part of north London, from essential furniture provision to palliative care and other welfare-enhancing projects.

Registered charities, community groups, and schools based in or serving the former Urban Districts of Chipping Barnet and East Barnet may apply for grants. Individual residents living in the same postal code areas can also apply for their own relief. It is a requirement that anyone who benefits from a grant lives within EN5, EN4, N11 or N14. The Trust has no religious restriction and considers applications from both individuals and organisations on their own merits.
