The Football Foundation, established in 2000 by the Premier League, The FA, and the UK Government via Sport England, is the UK's largest sports charity, having invested over £1.5 billion to transform grassroots football facilities and strengthen communities nationwide. Eligible applicants include UK-registered charities, community groups, and academic institutions operating in England only, with no income thresholds but a requirement for not-for-profit status and community benefit demonstration; larger projects need match funding and capacity evidence. Applications are unsolicited via an online portal on a rolling basis—small grants (£300-£25,000) decided in two weeks, larger ones (£25,001+) by regular Grants Panel meetings—requiring verified accounts, budgets, quotes, and permissions. Its distinctive scale, cross-sector partnerships, and rigorous impact evaluation set it apart for charities boosting grassroots football access and inclusivity.
