GLF Global Leadership Foundation (UK)

GLF Global Leadership Foundation (UK), established in 2006 as the UK arm of the international Global Leadership Foundation founded by F.W. de Klerk in 2004 and registered as a charity in 2008, promotes efficient government and public services worldwide by providing discreet, confidential peer-to-peer advisory support to current national leaders. Drawing on its global network of former Heads of State, Heads of Government, and distinguished statespeople, it fosters democratic leadership, good governance, and peaceful societies through values of independence, integrity, and non-publicity. Its distinctive approach emphasises behind-the-scenes interventions—mentoring, strategic advice, and expertise in areas like democratic transitions, election management, conflict resolution, humanitarian access, economic reform, and institutional strengthening—primarily in fragile states across Africa, Asia, and beyond.

The foundation supports capacity-building projects, leadership training for government officials and institutions, peacebuilding, reconciliation, and public sector reform, targeting national leaders, public servants, and populations impacted by poor governance or conflict. Beneficiaries are governments and aligned organisations committed to democracy and development, with engagements often by invitation to resolve political crises or enhance institutional resilience.

Eligible entities include established national or international organisations focused on governance and democracy-building, with no geographic, income, or religious restrictions, though support is invite-only—no unsolicited applications or public processes. Typical grants range from £5,000 to £50,000 for strategic projects, but most aid is non-financial advisory services rather than cash; no deadlines, rounds, or meetings are published.

GLF (UK) excludes core costs, capital expenses, direct service delivery, grassroots efforts, or transactional charity, prioritising sustainable, system-level change via high-level, confidential expertise that differentiates it from traditional funders.
