GroceryAid is an independent UK charity established in 1857 as the National Grocers Benevolent Fund, renamed in 2012, dedicated exclusively to supporting current and former grocery industry workers—spanning production, logistics, retail, supply chains, and off-licences—along with their dependants, including partners and children facing hardship. Its enduring mission is to alleviate distress, social isolation, and well-being challenges through practical, emotional, and financial aid, guided by values of industry solidarity, confidentiality, compassion, and inclusivity for all sector colleagues regardless of role or tenure. As the sole national benevolent fund for the UK grocery workforce, it is industry-funded and governed by senior sector figures, acting as a safety net responsive to evolving pressures like cost-of-living crises and mental health needs.

The charity prioritises welfare support via non-repayable grants for crisis relief (e.g., rent arrears, funerals, medical costs), cost-of-living aid (up to £300/household), school essentials (£150/child, up to three), and specialist grants for carers or breast cancer; complemented by a 24/7 helpline, online advice, and partnerships for counselling, debt, and legal guidance on issues like bereavement, redundancy, abuse, and isolation.

Eligible beneficiaries are strictly UK-based individuals with any grocery sector work history (no minimum service) or their close dependants, across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland; organisations are ineligible. Unsolicited online applications (with payslips, income proof, bank statements) are accepted rolling basis, with decisions in weeks; time-limited programmes like School Essentials have annual windows. Grants are needs-assessed with no fixed maxima beyond specifics.
