Harborne and Smethwick Charitable Trust

The Harborne and Smethwick Charitable Trust was established in 2018, modernising the centuries-old Harborne Parish Lands Charity. As both a grantmaker and a housing provider, it is dedicated to relieving hardship and fostering independence for residents in Harborne, Smethwick, parts of Bearwood, and Quinton. Its mission is rooted in traditions of benevolence, equity, and community stewardship, with a strong emphasis on dignity, inclusion, and race equality. The Trust delivers safe sheltered accommodation for those aged 60 and over, alongside targeted financial support, balancing immediate needs with long-term public benefit. The Trust funds initiatives that tackle poverty relief, social isolation, essential living costs, mental health, debt awareness, accessible housing, and community activities that enhance well-being, independence, and participation. Priority is given to older people, disabled individuals, children, young people, and vulnerable groups facing economic hardship. Grants support core costs, projects, emergency aid, assistive technology, and local organisations delivering practical impact. There is no fixed theme list; funding is guided by assessed local needs. What makes the Trust distinctive is its exclusive hyper-local focus, historic endowment stewardship, and dual housing-grants model. It does not fund non-local or unrelated activities, instead promoting sustainable self-sufficiency within its defined communities.
