Hope Works

Hope Works is a UK-based charitable incorporated organisation, established in October 2020 and registered in Hackney, London, dedicated to raising funds and making grants to trusted charities and social purpose organisations in Zimbabwe. Its core mission focuses on four thematic areas—food, health, training, and education—to address basic needs and enhance quality of life for vulnerable groups, guided by values of trust, partnership, accountability, and tangible impact through empowering local actors rather than direct service delivery. With a board of seven trustees overseeing strategic decisions, it emphasises robust governance, safeguarding, and risk management to ensure ethical, effective interventions.

The funder supports initiatives tackling immediate needs like food security and healthcare access, alongside long-term capacity building through education and vocational training. Beneficiaries include children and young people, older people, people with disabilities, and other community-based charities, prioritising those at risk of poverty, exclusion, and limited services.

Eligible entities are community groups and social enterprises operating exclusively in Zimbabwe, with a preference for grassroots, small, and medium-sized organisations demonstrating local expertise; there are no religious restrictions or strict income thresholds. Hope Works does not accept unsolicited applications—instead, trustees identify and invite partners discretionarily—with no published deadlines, open rounds, or fixed meeting schedules. Grants are modest (typically inferred below £25,000, aligned with annual expenditure around £120,000) for project costs, not unrestricted or capital funding.

Distinctively, it excludes all activities outside Zimbabwe, direct programmes, or large national/international entities, standing out for its narrow geographic and thematic focus, partnership-driven model, and commitment to locally anchored solutions for structurally disadvantaged communities.
