Joseph Rank Trust

The Joseph Rank Trust is an independent Christian grant-maker established in 2002 from charities founded by Joseph Rank (1854–1943) and family between 1918 and 1942, rooted in his evangelical convictions and Methodist heritage. Its mission advances the Christian faith through practical, compassionate action, supporting charitable projects that address spiritual, educational, and practical needs across all UK denominations. Guided by values of service, community impact, and stewardship, it emphasizes relational grant-making, sustainability, and faith-driven missional work to transform individual lives and communities.

It prioritizes two areas: Christian-led initiatives tackling disadvantage—such as youth outreach, faith-based education, social action for cohesion, loneliness relief among older people, disability inclusion, and support for deprived groups—and capital grants for adapting or improving church buildings to enable inclusive community facilities. Funding covers project delivery, core/running costs (up to three years, including staff like youth workers), and capacity-building, with over 670 grants totaling £21 million since 2017 demonstrating UK-wide impact, especially in England.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities (England/Wales/Scotland/Northern Ireland), preferably small/medium-sized with grassroots focus; Christian motivation is essential. Applications suspended until 1 October 2025 (Methodist churches/charities excepted), then rolling via hard-copy two-page letter (no email) with accounts, budgets, and outcomes narrative, assessed first-come-first-served at biannual trustee meetings (January/July), with decisions in up to three months. Typical grants: £10,000–£50,000.

Exclusions include individuals, umbrellas, overseas/non-charitable work, repeats post-term, and non-Christian projects. Distinctives: approachable ethos encouraging enquiries, openness to all denominations, Methodist affinity, and insistence on additionality, partnerships, and long-term plans.
