LFT Charitable Trust

LFT Charitable Trust is a Belfast-based family foundation funded primarily by Alterity Investments, dedicated exclusively to grant-making for high-impact charitable work. Established with a vision of a just world enabling individuals to transform lives, participate in communities, and build futures, it embodies values of compassion, fairness, integrity, continuous learning, and deep partnership. Distinctively responsive and invitation-led, it fosters close relationships with partners, prioritising underfunded organisations delivering measurable change, especially in Northern Ireland, while supporting acute needs internationally.

The Trust funds health and wellbeing initiatives tackling isolation, addiction, mental health, disability, and end-of-life care; education efforts enhancing access, literacy, and opportunity; and relief from suffering via housing, homelessness, poverty, domestic violence, discrimination, and inequality. It champions small charities struggling for mainstream funding, with a longstanding focus on low-income countries like Madagascar in health, education, sustainable livelihoods, and water. Beneficiaries include children, youth, adults with additional needs, trafficking survivors, food-insecure groups, and marginalised communities. Targeted programmes like Enriching Lives, Bright Sparks, and Nurtured by Nature support project delivery, core costs, capacity building, and small capital, often intergenerational or youth-led.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities and community groups of small to medium size, with no geographic base required but preference for Northern Ireland operations; grassroots entities with proven impact are favoured. Typical grants range from £500 to £7,000. Applications are email-based for announced programmes only—no unsolicited submissions—with varying deadlines (e.g., April, October, November 2025) and ad hoc meetings. It excludes general appeals, prioritising catalytic, long-term partnerships for transformative, evaluated outcomes over statutory services.
