Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Charity

The Charity funds a wide range of activities that complement NHS services. These include patient care enhancements such as medical equipment, hospital refurbishments, arts and music initiatives, and physical and mental wellbeing programmes for people of all ages. Staff wellbeing and hardship relief, professional training, and research development are also supported. Innovation grants back cutting-edge medical technology and clinical research aligned with the Trust's priorities. To address health inequalities, the Charity funds projects targeting marginalised groups, including patients with learning disabilities, refugee families, and disadvantaged young people, often delivered in partnership with voluntary and community organisations. All funded work is within Newcastle upon Tyne and the North East of England.

Organisations based in or serving Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, and Cumbria are eligible to apply. The Charity primarily funds registered charities, community groups, and social enterprises. It works in partnership with its NHS Foundation Trust, so projects must complement statutory NHS services. Priority is given to work that benefits patients, staff, and communities in the North East, especially marginalised groups such as people with learning disabilities, refugee families, and disadvantaged young people. There is no religious restriction.

The Charity does not fund activities that replace standard NHS care, core costs, or initiatives that do not add value beyond statutory provision. Projects that are not additional to NHS services, such as replacing core NHS equipment or funding routine staff salaries, are not considered. The Charity focuses on adding value beyond what the NHS is required to provide.

The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Charity accepts unsolicited applications for its grant programme. It funds projects that add value beyond statutory NHS provision, including innovation grants, equipment, arts and wellbeing initiatives, and staff training. The Charity works in partnership with its NHS Foundation Trust to identify priorities.
