Plymouth Hospitals General Charity and Other Related Charities

The charity supports a wide range of enhancements that directly improve care and the hospital environment. This includes patient environment upgrades such as healing gardens and improvements to the Neonatal ICU, specialist diagnostic and treatment equipment, staff education and wellbeing initiatives, volunteer networks like the Derriford League of Friends, and small-scale innovative research. All funded work takes place within the trust's hospitals and facilities across Plymouth and the immediate South West Devon areas served by the trust.

Grants are exclusively for internal University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust staff and departments. The charity does not accept unsolicited external submissions from charities or other organisations unless they are invited to apply in partnership. Beneficiaries include patients of all ages, carers, families, and staff within the trust's Plymouth catchment, enabling direct improvements in care delivery and community health.

The charity does not fund core NHS costs, unrestricted external funding, or projects that fall outside the trust's remit. External organisations cannot apply unless specifically invited to partner, and funding is limited to the geographic areas served by the trust in Plymouth and South West Devon.

The charity operates through a structured internal application process for trust staff and departments, with decisions made by trustee committees. Funding is responsive and front-line driven, balancing immediate benefits with long-term stewardship. The charity works in close partnership with the NHS, ensuring that grants align with trust priorities and deliver measurable impact.
