Police Care UK

Police Care UK is an independent national charity, relaunched in 2019 from the historic Police Dependants’ Trust, dedicated to supporting serving and former police officers, staff, volunteers, and their immediate families across the UK who have suffered physical or psychological harm from their policing roles. With His Majesty King Charles III as Patron and fully independent of government or police forces, its mission is to reduce the impact of such harm through confidential practical, emotional, financial, and psychological support, while raising awareness of policing's dangers. Rooted in values of independence, compassion, and societal obligation, it emphasizes evidence-based, holistic care—treating individuals case-by-case rather than transactionally—and invests heavily in innovative mental health programmes, trauma therapy, and systemic change like a national psychological wellbeing centre.

It prioritizes funding psychological therapy (for trauma, stress, anxiety, bereavement), practical/financial aid, recovery interventions, harm-reduction programmes, and research into policing trauma prevalence and treatment. Beneficiaries are strictly the "police family" (any rank, role, or status across all UK forces, including England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland), delivered via direct individual grants or partnerships with aligned charities delivering scaled services—no general community or non-policing support.

Eligible entities are UK-registered charities, with preference for medium-to-large organisations proven to deliver trauma/recovery programmes at scale; unsolicited applications are not accepted—funding occurs through invite-only, negotiated partnerships on a rolling basis with no deadlines. Typical grants range £20,000–£500,000 for projects, excluding core costs, overheads, or unrestricted funding. Distinctive for its confidential, whole-person approach, strategic psychological focus, and blend of individual aid with national initiatives, Police Care UK ensures policing's hidden injuries are addressed innovatively and enduringly.
