Providing Animal Welfare Support (Paws)

PAWS funds emergency relief for rescue homes, preventing abandonment, and enabling rehoming of animals. They support veterinary treatment, food supplies, and core operational costs for small independent rescues. Their work focuses on animal welfare within their registered areas of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield City, extending support to individuals and organisations across the UK. Thematic priorities include helping people who cannot afford veterinary care and supporting rescue facilities that care for animals.

PAWS welcomes applications from registered charities and individual pet owners, particularly those without access to mainstream fundraising or larger grants. They prioritise small, volunteer-led rescues with limited public donation networks, as well as pet owners facing financial hardship who may be at risk of surrendering their animals. Applicants should be based in the UK, with a focus on the South Yorkshire region per the charity’s registered areas. Both organisations and individuals demonstrating genuine need and a commitment to animal welfare are eligible.

PAWS does not fund large charities, generalist projects that lack a clear animal welfare focus, or capital initiatives such as building projects or major equipment. Organisations with access to statutory or national funding streams are also excluded, as the funder aims to support those without alternative sources.

PAWS operates with a volunteer-driven model, providing rapid, practical intervention through one-off emergency grants and ongoing monthly support. They accept unsolicited applications via email with no formal forms required, only basic evidence of need. Funding is trustee-led and designed to reach under-resourced frontline efforts quickly, with minimal bureaucracy.
