The Royal Theatrical Fund, established in 1839 by actors led by Charles Dickens and expanded through Royal Charters in 1853 and 1974, is a specialist benevolent charity dedicated to providing financial support and practical assistance to UK entertainment professionals facing hardship due to illness, injury, adversity, or old age. Grants, typically ranging from a few hundred to several thousand pounds based on need, cover essentials like food, housing, utilities, and health costs, with repeat and one-off emergency aid available; decisions are rolling, prioritising urgent cases within weeks. Exclusions include non-essential debts, cash payments, projects, or capital funding.
