Organisations must be strictly aligned with Orthodox Judaism and serve people of the Jewish faith. Smaller entities are particularly welcome, and there is no expectation of a minimum size. The funder prioritises those embedded in Orthodox Jewish communities and acting in keeping with Orthodox values.

Shimon Yehuda does not support non-Orthodox Jewish, secular, or generalist causes. International projects are generally excluded, as are capital appeals, emergency funding, and seed funding. The funder maintains a deliberately narrow religious focus rather than spreading support across broad charitable themes.

Funding is invite-only, with unsolicited applications not accepted. Grants are awarded at the trustees' discretion, often through established relationships, and tend to be stable and ongoing rather than one-off. Support can be directed to project costs, core running costs, or occasional individual aid, with an emphasis on sustained backing for aligned institutions.
