Speech, Language and Hearing Foundation

The Foundation funds causes that support children and young people with hearing impairment, speech delay, language or communication difficulties, or complex needs. It backs projects offering direct outcomes such as speech and language therapy, specialist education for hearing-impaired or communication-delayed children, autism communication provisions, and innovations in paediatric hearing or communication technology. The Foundation also supports research and educational programmes that address communication barriers. Its work is carried out across the UK, with a focus on small national or local charities.

The Foundation will only consider applications from charities registered with the Charity Commission, or charities that hold a Certificate of Exemption from the Inland Revenue. It concentrates its funding on small national or local charities. Applications from individuals are not accepted unless they are supported by a registered UK charity. Beneficiaries are children who have hearing impairment, speech delay, language or communication difficulties, or who have complex needs.

The Trustees are unlikely to support large national charities which enjoy wide support. The Foundation does not accept applications from individuals unless they are supported by a registered UK charity. Its focus is on small organisations, so larger charities with broad backing are generally not considered.

The Foundation is administered by unremunerated trustees who prioritise high-impact, specialised interventions. It makes donation commitments of one, two or three years. The Foundation concentrates its funding on small national or local charities and welcomes unsolicited applications from eligible organisations.
