Zichron Yecheskel Trust (Zyt)

The trust funds the advancement of Orthodox Jewish religious education, the advancement of the Orthodox Jewish religion, and the relief of poverty, with particular attention to people of the Jewish faith. In practice, this means support for religious educational initiatives, synagogue operations, and poverty relief and welfare services for Jewish people in need. Grants cover core expenses and project costs for direct services, targeting established organisations that deliver tangible community benefits. The geographic focus is on key Jewish population centres in England and Wales.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered Orthodox Jewish charities, typically small to medium-sized with proven track records, operating solely in England and Wales. The trust occasionally extends support to individuals in hardship, but the primary route is through registered charities. Because of the trust's exclusive faith orientation, unsolicited applications from outside the Jewish faith are unlikely to succeed.

The trust does not fund non-faith or generalist causes, nor does it support capital, unrestricted, seed, or innovative projects. Its giving is strictly focused on preserving and strengthening established Orthodox Jewish communal life, so work outside that remit, however worthwhile, is not considered.

The trust operates as a discretionary, trustee-led funder. Grants cover core expenses and project costs for direct services, with an emphasis on continuity for core programmes rather than capital, unrestricted, seed, or innovative projects.
