Adnams Community Trust

The Adnams Community Trust, established in 1990 by Adnams PLC—a historic brewery based in Southwold, Suffolk—channels at least 1% of the company's annual profits into nurturing local communities within a strict 25-mile radius of Southwold. Rooted in principles of social responsibility, sustainable development, and community strengthening, the trust adopts a place-based, generalist approach that empowers grassroots organizations to deliver tangible improvements in quality of life, particularly for children, young people, the elderly, and disadvantaged groups.

It prioritizes six key themes: education, health and social welfare, arts, recreation, environment and conservation, community buildings and facilities, and history or heritage. Funding supports discrete projects, equipment, and specific items—such as school wellbeing initiatives, accessible outdoor spaces, community sports, and environmental stewardship—that provide immediate, demonstrable benefits, with a strong bias toward small to medium-sized charities, schools, and voluntary groups in direct contact with beneficiaries.

Eligible applicants include UK-registered charities, community groups, and academic institutions (national charities only if projects are exclusively local); no income thresholds apply, though smaller, embedded organizations are favored. Grants typically range from £100 to £2,500 (most £500–£2,500) for one-year projects. Exclusions cover individuals, core/ongoing costs, unrestricted funding, and non-local work.
