Barristers' Benevolent Association

The BBA provides grants and loans to address a broad spectrum of needs, including emergency relief, income loss, housing stability, children's education, home equipment, and support for re-entering work. Assistance is available for challenges arising from illness, accidents, mental health issues, bereavement, disability, or age-related needs within the barrister community of England and Wales. The charity supports individuals facing a wide variety of personal and financial crises.

Beneficiaries include barristers from any circuit, their spouses or partners, widows, widowers, and children of qualifying individuals. The BBA supports practising and former barristers and judges along with their dependants who are experiencing genuine financial hardship or crisis. All applications are treated with strict confidentiality and are assessed individually based on need, with no income thresholds or religious restrictions applied.

The BBA does not provide funding to general charities, organisations, or groups. Their assistance is strictly limited to qualifying individuals who are barristers, judges, or their dependants, and does not extend to any other groups or causes outside this community.

The BBA offers both grants and loans on a flexible, case-by-case basis, focusing entirely on the genuine needs of each applicant. They welcome unsolicited applications from eligible individuals and treat every request confidentially, providing tailored support without any set assessment thresholds or restrictions.
