Boparan Charitable Trust

The Trust funds specialist equipment, therapies, and essential items for children and young people with disabilities, life-limiting conditions, or those in extreme poverty across the UK. Priority areas include sensory items, trikes, and therapy tricycles, as well as support for physical health and poverty alleviation. Grants are provided for key items that assist the child, such as communication devices or mobility aids, and the Trust also donates towards therapies. Their funding is directed at individual children rather than organisations, focusing on needs-led support where public provision is insufficient.

Applications are accepted from families or individuals supporting a child aged 18 and under who is resident in the UK and disadvantaged through poverty, disability, or terminal illness. The Trust works directly with families, so registered charities, schools, and other organisations are not eligible to apply on behalf of a child. There are no religious restrictions, and the Trust prioritises children facing extreme poverty, disabilities, or life-limiting conditions. Applicants must provide independent quotes and verification of needs as part of the process.

The Trust does not fund bespoke multi-purpose powered wheelchairs, specialised mobility buggies, bespoke therapy tricycles, specialised car seats, sensory equipment, short breaks, or specialist cancer treatments not available in the UK. They also exclude fundraising for treatment costs, one-off donations towards treatment, therapy for cerebral palsy and brain-related disorders, treatment for selective dorsal rhizotomy, specialised disability sports equipment, refurbishment costs, and household appliances.

The Trust provides one-off financial grants directly to families for specific items or therapies, with no requirement for match funding. Their model is family-focused and practical, with grants awarded on a rolling basis. They welcome unsolicited applications from families and individuals, and their process is designed to be efficient, with independent quotes required to verify costs. The Trust does not fund core costs or ongoing programmes, focusing instead on tangible, immediate support for individual children.
