Burden Trust

The Trust funds a range of causes including medical research, support for older people, education and skills, children and youth, poverty and hardship, and faith-based initiatives. It supports the work of registered charities that deliver services within the Bristol area, with a strong preference for organisations based locally. The trustees are particularly interested in applications from local charitable organisations whose work and objectives fall within the overall objects of the Trust and are broadly in line with the tenets and principles of the Church of England.

Registered charities based in and serving the Bristol area are eligible to apply. The Trust prioritises organisations whose work aligns with Church of England principles and whose objectives fall within the Trust's overall objects. Applications from outside the Bristol area are far less likely to be considered, so local roots are essential. The Trust supports established charities rather than individuals.

The Trust does not fund individuals or non-charitable organisations. Applications from outside the Bristol area are unlikely to be considered, and those that do not adhere to the Trust's specified requirements are also less likely to succeed.

The Trust welcomes unsolicited applications from eligible charities. It favours a conservative approach, prioritising local, faith-aligned organisations and often supporting proven work that reflects the founder's ethos.
