Cymdeithas Elusennol Ynys Mon

Cymdeithas Elusennol Ynys Môn is an independent, community-led charitable foundation established in 2017 as the successor to the Isle of Anglesey Charitable Trust, which managed a major endowment from Shell (UK) compensation after the Amlwch oil terminal closure. Rooted in Ynys Môn (Isle of Anglesey), its mission is to empower local people and sustain distinctive communities through transparent grant-making focused on long-term wellbeing, social inclusion, and capacity building. Core values emphasize independence, local democratic governance—with trustees appointed openly to minimize political influence—and responsiveness to residents' priorities via consultation.

It funds initiatives enhancing community health, wellbeing, and environment, including voluntary organizations, cultural/heritage projects, events, sports clubs, arts, environmental protection, public amenities, training, and facilities like Oriel Ynys Môn museum. Three streams target Community Prevention (root causes, multi-year possible), Innovation (creative approaches, up to £3,000), and Essential (immediate needs, up to £5,000), covering capital, revenue, and running costs for grassroots groups to larger providers.

Eligible applicants are UK-based community groups and voluntary organizations operating on or directly benefiting Ynys Môn residents, with a governing document, board of at least two unrelated members, dedicated bank account, reserves under 12 months' running costs, and no active/unspent prior grants. Typical grants range £300–£50,000 (exceptional cases higher), via online portal on rolling basis (closes 1 Aug–30 Sep annually; reopens 6 Nov 2025). Under £10,000: direct full application; over: Expression of Interest first, possibly site visit. Decisions within 12 weeks.

Distinctives include hyper-local Anglesey focus, community-driven decisions, and endowment safeguards for future generations; no religious restrictions or income caps, but excludes non-local or non-community-benefiting activities.
