Unsolicited applications are not accepted. Beneficiaries are individuals identified by District Judges or Coroners as facing acute need or hardship. Charities and voluntary groups that provide practical assistance to these individuals may be considered for occasional grants. The fund shows a preference for smaller organisations active in court-linked welfare.

The fund does not support long-term programmes, advocacy work, core costs, capital projects, or any activities outside Greater London or the City of London. It also cannot accept applications from organisations or individuals not referred by a District Judge or Coroner.

The fund awards one-off emergency relief grants, responding to urgent needs identified by the courts. It operates entirely by referral from District Judges and Coroners and does not accept unsolicited applications. There are no open funding rounds; grants are awarded as needed on a case-by-case basis.
