Edgar Lee Foundation

The foundation funds health services, including research into conditions such as meningitis, and disability support covering physical and learning disabilities, complex health needs, and therapeutic activities like respite care, counselling, and peer support groups for disabled children, adults, families, and carers. They also support scientific research, community development addressing social isolation, poverty relief, elderly care, youth work, mental health counselling, employment training, and advocacy for vulnerable groups including people with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and care leavers. Their grants reach both local Dorset-based grassroots charities and national organisations, serving urban, rural, and coastal communities across England and Wales.

Registered charities are eligible to apply. The foundation supports organisations working for the general public benefit, with particular focus on people with disabilities, elderly people, children and young people, and other defined groups. There are no prescriptive beneficiary limits or faith-based restrictions. Charities based in Dorset or serving Dorset communities are especially welcome, though the foundation also funds national organisations. Unsolicited applications are accepted.

The foundation excludes non-charitable purposes. They do not require evidence-based impact frameworks, innovation mandates, or faith-based restrictions, but they favour established public benefit and do not fund activities that fall outside charitable objects.

The foundation provides sustained backing for core activities and running costs, as well as project interventions. They offer unrestricted support and welcome unsolicited applications. Their approach is discretionary, trusting informed judgment over strategic frameworks.
