Energy Saving Trust Foundation

The Energy Saving Trust Foundation is a registered charity in England and Wales (No. 1144106), established to advance public education on conserving, protecting, and improving the physical and natural environment, with a focus on sustainable development and energy efficiency. Closely linked to the Energy Saving Trust—founded in 1992—it embodies values of climate responsibility, social equity, and empowering individuals and communities to reduce carbon emissions through practical, measurable actions. Its distinctive approach leverages expertise from the wider Energy Saving Trust group, fostering strategic partnerships, innovation, and scalable solutions aligned with UK net zero goals.

It prioritises funding educational programmes, public awareness campaigns, youth-led climate action, pilot projects, research, and community interventions tackling energy conservation, resource stewardship, and fuel poverty. Beneficiaries include the general public, young people, vulnerable communities, and those at risk of environmental disadvantage, delivered via charities, CICs, community groups, and social enterprises promoting sustainable behaviours and carbon savings.

Eligible applicants must be UK-registered charities, CICs, CIOs, community benefit societies, or similar not-for-profits with annual income under £1 million (grants ≤25% of income), operating UK-wide. It offers project-specific grants of £10,000–£40,000 (typically up to £20,000/year for two years) for time-limited initiatives like staffing or capacity building, excluding core costs, capital-only projects, or emergency relief. Applications follow a two-stage process (EOI then full) in periodic themed rounds—monitor Energy Saving Trust websites, as the latest EOI closed 2 June 2025—with decisions in 8-10 weeks. Uniquely, it emphasises replicable models with proven environmental impact over one-off activities.
