Freshgate Trust Foundation

The Foundation supports projects across education, heritage and restoration, environment, music and arts, recreation, and welfare, health and social care. It backs grassroots initiatives such as inclusive sports, arts access, community venue improvements, educational opportunities, and wellbeing activities for groups like Sheffield Mencap & Gateway and Darnall Dementia Group. All funding is directed to residents of South Yorkshire, particularly the disadvantaged, elderly, or vulnerable. The Trust focuses on hyper-local, opportunity-focused support that fosters social cohesion across cultural, educational, welfare, and recreational domains.

Eligible applicants are small- and medium-sized UK-registered charities or local voluntary and community groups based and operating exclusively in South Yorkshire. The Trust gives preference to grassroots, volunteer-led entities. It prioritises organisations that serve disadvantaged, elderly, or vulnerable residents. Larger national or statutory bodies are not eligible. The Foundation welcomes unsolicited applications from groups that meet these criteria.

The Trust does not support larger national or statutory bodies. It also avoids unrestricted funding and emergency appeals, preferring to fund specific project costs. General running costs, deficit funding, and activities outside South Yorkshire are not covered.

The Foundation makes one-off project grants and welcomes unsolicited applications. It funds both revenue and capital costs for specific initiatives, but does not provide unrestricted or multi-year support. Trustees favour pragmatic, community-centred investments that demonstrate measurable beneficiary impact.
