The trust funds registered charities across the UK working in education and skills, community development, mental health, and physical health. Only registered charities can apply. The trustees prioritise charities they have previously worked with, but each year they invite a few new charities aligned with that year's theme (e.g., education, social inclusion, physical and mental health). They particularly welcome smaller charities where a modest grant can make a meaningful difference. There is no religious restriction. Beneficiaries include children, young people, and communities across the UK.

The trust does not fund large charities or large-scale projects. It rarely supports charities outside its annual thematic focus, and only considers registered charities. New charities are only added if they fit the current theme. The trust avoids funding where its grant would be a small part of a larger project.
