Garfield Weston Foundation

The Foundation funds across arts and culture, community development, education and skills, the environment, faith, physical and mental health, heritage, poverty and hardship, and children and youth. It supports core costs, capital works, and project delivery. Grants are made to charities working with the general public across the UK and UK Overseas Territories. The Foundation takes a flexible approach, encouraging charities to request the support they need most. For capital projects, the Foundation expects applicants to have secured a significant proportion of funding and typically contributes a modest share of the total costs.

UK registered charities and charitable incorporated organisations (CIOs), including those exempt or excepted under Charity Commission guidance, are eligible. The Foundation does not fund individuals, community interest companies, community benefit societies, or social enterprises. It supports charities working with the general public across all beneficiary groups. The Foundation welcomes unsolicited applications and recommends that applicants ask for what their organisation needs most, whether for core costs, capital, or project delivery. For capital projects, the Foundation expects a substantial part of the funding to already be secured.

The Foundation does not fund animals, individuals, or non-charitable organisations such as CICs, community benefit societies, or social enterprises. It also excludes feasibility studies, events, emergency appeals, and activities that have already taken place or projects already completed. Salaries for specific posts are not funded. For its smaller grant programme, equipment is also excluded.

The Foundation offers flexible funding for core costs, capital works, and project delivery. Core cost grants can be made for one, two, or three years. For capital projects, the Foundation expects a significant match funding contribution and typically provides a modest share of total costs. The Foundation welcomes unsolicited applications and emphasises trust, minimal bureaucracy, and long-term partnerships.
