Hadrian Trust

The Trust funds local organisations based in the Northeast of England, defined as the old counties of Northumberland and Durham, including Tyne and Wear and Cleveland north of the River Tees. Priority areas are social welfare, youth, disability, elderly, ethnic minorities, education, arts and environment. Within these themes, they support hands-on services and local impact, including work with children and young people, older people, disabled people, women, and ethnic minority communities. Grants can cover core costs, project staff, equipment, and running expenses for initiatives that address social disadvantage and promote inclusion.

The Trust supports registered charities, community groups, social enterprises, schools, and trusts based in the North East of England. They prioritise organisations working with children and young people, older people, disabled people, women, and ethnic minority communities, as well as those addressing social welfare and education. Applicants should have a strong local presence within the defined area. National charities without a base in the North East are not eligible. Individuals are not funded.

The Trust does not fund medical research, national charities making general appeals, or national charities without a base in the North East of England. Major capital works, such as building projects, are also excluded. Applications from individuals are not accepted.

The Trust makes one-off grants rather than multi-year commitments. They welcome unsolicited applications and fund a range of costs including core costs, project staff, equipment, and running expenses. Their approach is low-bureaucracy and responsive.
