Heart Research UK

Healthy Heart Grants support community-based projects that encourage physical activity, healthy eating, and heart health awareness. These projects take place across Wales, the North of England, Scotland, the South of England, and Northern Ireland. The research programme funds cardiovascular research UK-wide, covering the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease. All funded work must be new, original, and innovative. The charity prioritises project delivery for the general public, with a particular focus on adults, and supports a range of activities that actively promote heart health in local communities.

The charity funds registered charities, community interest companies, community groups, and social enterprises. It prioritises the general public, especially adults, as beneficiaries. Researchers at host institutions are eligible for research grants. For community grants, organisations must be based in the UK and deliver work in Wales, the North of England, Scotland, the South of England, or Northern Ireland. The charity does not fund children or young people through its community programmes. It welcomes applications from a wide range of community organisations and research institutions.

The charity does not fund ongoing community projects unless they are being delivered to a new group. It does not fund medical research through its community grants. The research programme excludes stroke, diabetes, and peripheral arterial disease research, and does not cover publication costs, staff recruitment, indirect costs, conference attendance, or the Apprenticeship Levy.

Heart Research UK offers one-off project grants for community initiatives and multi-year grants for research. It supports project delivery costs for community work and research costs for academic projects. The charity accepts unsolicited applications and does not require an invitation. All grants are awarded on a competitive basis.
