Infrastructure Industry Foundation

IIF prioritises rare cancer research, notably through the Ella Project for Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, and social mobility programmes that help disadvantaged individuals access careers in infrastructure. This includes partnerships for mentoring, volunteering, and raising awareness. The Foundation also supports new causes nominated by its members that are linked to the communities where infrastructure projects are based. Funding can cover project costs, core organisational costs, capacity building, and multi-year strategies. Geographically, IIF supports work across England, Wales, and the wider UK. The Foundation’s giving is deliberately focused on themes with direct ties to the infrastructure sector, rather than broad charitable appeals.

UK-registered charities and voluntary organisations (including community groups) are eligible to receive funding. IIF prioritises organisations working on rare cancer research or social mobility for disadvantaged individuals, as well as causes nominated by sector members that benefit infrastructure host communities. There are no income thresholds or religious restrictions. However, charities cannot apply directly; they must be nominated by a member of the infrastructure industry. This nomination-driven approach ensures that funded causes have strong connections to the sector and its professionals.

IIF does not accept unsolicited applications; charities must be nominated by sector members. The Foundation avoids broad general charity and instead focuses its resources on rare cancer research, social mobility, and member-nominated causes linked to infrastructure host communities. It does not fund causes outside these priority areas or those without a direct connection to the infrastructure industry.

IIF operates a collaborative, nomination-driven model. It offers both one-off and multi-year funding, covering project costs, core costs, and capacity building. Grants are awarded through a blend of responsive annual commitments and enduring partnerships. The Foundation works exclusively by invitation, leveraging its professional networks to identify and support charities. Unsolicited approaches are not welcomed.
