James Pantyfedwen Foundation (Ymddiriedolaeth James Pantyfedwen)

The foundation supports a range of causes across six programmes. It funds church and chapel building improvements that enhance mission and outreach, postgraduate student grants for tuition fees (prioritising early-career applicants and study at Welsh universities), national and local Eisteddfodau, publications on faith and heritage, equipment for faith groups, and training courses in faith and education. The work supported must primarily benefit Wales, though postgraduate students may study elsewhere. Within Wales, the foundation supports projects across the whole country, from chapels in rural communities to Eisteddfodau in towns and cities.

Organisations based in Wales, including registered charities, faith groups, and community groups, may apply. Individuals from Wales can apply for postgraduate student grants and training courses. The foundation prioritises applicants in the early stages of their academic careers for student grants, and faith groups for church-related programmes. A clear Welsh connection is required for all applicants, whether through place of birth, residence, or education.

The foundation does not fund core costs, salaries, or capital works except for church buildings. It excludes undergraduate courses, PGCE, training courses in accountancy, and courses at institutions not approved by the UK Department of Education. Publications eligible for grants from other sources such as the Welsh Books Council are also excluded. Activities outside Wales are generally not funded, with the exception of postgraduate study.

The foundation accepts unsolicited applications and awards grants for specific purposes through its six programmes. Grants are made for projects, equipment, events, tuition fees, and publications, rather than for ongoing core costs or salaries. Each programme has its own focus, and applications are considered by the trustees.
