June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund

The Fund exclusively supports mesothelioma research conducted at UK research institutions. It funds a wide range of work including laboratory studies on disease mechanisms, clinical trials for new diagnostics and therapies, epidemiological research on occupational exposure, and applied health projects to improve patient care. Programmes include pump-priming grants for small pilot or feasibility studies, major project grants, PhD and training fellowships, and travel grants for conference presentations and knowledge exchange. All supported work must be carried out at a UK research institution, and the Fund prioritises research that translates laboratory discoveries into clinical benefits for patients.

Researchers based at UK research institutions may apply. Organisations such as registered charities can apply for pump-priming grants and major project grants, while individuals may apply for travel grants and fellowships. The Fund supports work that benefits mesothelioma patients and their families, and values patient-advocacy heritage. Applications are welcomed from across the UK, and the Fund is open to diverse research methodologies. There is no restriction on religious context.

The Fund does not support general cancer research, non-mesothelioma conditions, core organisational costs, or unrestricted support. It also excludes broad health or palliative care projects that lack a singular focus on asbestos-related mesothelioma. All funded work must be specific to mesothelioma and carried out at a UK research institution.
