Edward Gostling Foundation

The foundation funds capital projects, defined as the construction and fitting out of new buildings and/or extensions to existing buildings. These projects typically relate to causes such as disability, health, and poverty, and may include accessibility enhancements, residential provisions, respite facilities, or transition support. Work must align with the foundation's themes of improving wellbeing, independence, and inclusion for people with disabilities, long-term illnesses, or those on low incomes. The foundation supports charities across the UK, with no geographic restrictions on where projects can be located.

Only UK-registered charities that are regulated by a UK Charity Commission and have been operating for at least three years are eligible to apply. There are no income thresholds or size restrictions. The foundation prioritises charities delivering direct, frontline services that benefit people with physical or mental disabilities, long-term illnesses, poverty, or significant disadvantage. Unsolicited applications are welcomed. There is no religious restriction on applicants.

The foundation does not fund research, medical treatment, awareness campaigns, core or revenue costs, political or religious activities, or statutory duties unless these are locally justified. Capital projects must have planning consent and, if necessary, listed building consent already granted before an application is accepted. Standalone equipment purchases or projects not involving construction or extensions are also excluded.

Grants are awarded as one-off capital funding for major projects, with a recommended requirement that applicants have at least 50% of the project’s total funding already secured before applying. The foundation co-funds projects and does not cover full costs. It welcomes unsolicited applications and works in partnership with charities. Multi-year or revenue funding is not offered.
