Justice Collaborations

Justice Collaborations, a UK registered charity established in November 2019 and wholly owned by The Legal Education Foundation, drives systemic change in UK immigration justice through its Justice Together Initiative. Born from alliances among independent funders, it advances legal education, sound administration of law, poverty relief, and social inclusion by ensuring equitable access to justice for those navigating the immigration system. Guided by values of collaboration, transparency, and inclusivity, it uniquely centers people with lived experience in governance—including on its grants committee—and links frontline advice with policy influence to foster lasting transformation.

It funds specialist immigration legal advice and representation (OISC Level 2+), coordination and capacity-building among providers, advocacy for fairer processes, referral pathways, and sector-wide learning. Beneficiaries are marginalized users of the UK immigration system, including refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers, with strong preference for organizations led by those with lived experience. Supported activities span direct services, national/local influencing, and multi-year resilience-building across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities, with no specified income limits, though it favors grassroots to national groups aligned with immigration justice. Currently, it accepts only renewals and infrastructure support for existing partners—no unsolicited applications or open rounds. Typical multi-year grants range from £50,000 to £200,000, covering core costs, staff wellbeing, and strategic projects (past regional budgets £500,000–£600,000). It excludes non-immigration justice work, emphasizing participatory, evidence-based grant-making that builds a grantee community of practice for sustainable impact.
