Jvenn Foundation

The JVenn Foundation, a registered charity established in 2015, is dedicated to advancing education and social mobility for disadvantaged young people in Hull, targeting those facing financial hardship, disability, care experience, or social challenges. Led by chair John Cliff and a small board of trustees, it embodies a community-rooted ethos of identifying potential, fostering aspiration, and building long-term relationships through rigorous governance, safeguarding, and evidence-based support. Its distinctive approach combines substantial individual bursaries with funding for school enrichment projects, emphasizing literature, writing, and broader disciplines to spark interest and opportunity.

It primarily funds £6,000 annual bursaries (in three £2,000 instalments) for Hull residents (HU postcode) pursuing first undergraduate or tertiary qualifications at UK institutions, prioritizing financial need and government support recipients. Additionally, it supports extra-curricular projects in Hull schools and community groups, covering science, mathematics, technology, humanities, arts, literature, and career development to enhance educational engagement among local youth.

Eligible applicants include Hull-resident individuals for bursaries and local academic institutions or community groups for projects; organisational funding appears invite-only with no public process or income thresholds specified, though it favors grassroots initiatives. Bursary applications open via online form from 10 March to 16 May 2025, followed by shortlisting (by 31 May), tutor references, and in-person interviews (around 20 June). It excludes postgraduates, non-Hull applicants, and core costs or capital projects, standing out for its laser-focused, sustained investment in Hull's disadvantaged youth.
