Linder Foundation

The Foundation funds projects across several cause areas. Its Young People programme supports initiatives for young people in the community, in prison or young offenders institutions, and on release, as well as looked after children and children in care. The Environment programme funds land-based projects aiming for biodiversity improvements, habitat restoration, carbon capture, and regenerative farming, favouring local or regional projects that engage volunteers and communities. The Arts programme supports charities promoting the importance of the arts to culture and society, cultivating talent, and connecting communities, with a particular interest in the art of illustration. The Hospices programme partners with representative charities to improve end-of-life care for marginalised groups. The Medical Electives programme provides travel and living costs for students through teaching hospitals. All funded work takes place across the UK, with medical electives also abroad.

The Foundation only accepts applications from registered charities or exempt charities in the UK. It does not fund individuals. Beneficiaries include young people at risk or in the criminal justice system, looked after children, the general public, students, and marginalised groups in end-of-life care. The Foundation prioritises projects that can be replicated or scaled up and that involve community engagement and volunteers. For the Young People and Environment programmes, applicants must be able to provide match funding, with the Foundation's grant covering at least half of the total project cost.

The Foundation does not fund core costs, mainstream youth work, outward bound camps or sports activities unless part of a structured programme with one-to-one mentoring, generic youth counselling unless targeted at those at risk, projects that distribute grant funding to individuals or other organisations, or school uniform. It does not fund national-scale environment projects, non-land-based projects, projects that do not engage local communities, or species preservation for non-red list species. It also does not fund individual hospices, gap year activities, or sponsorship.

The Foundation funds through open application rounds for its Young People and Environment programmes, and by invitation for its Hospices, Medical Electives, and Arts programmes. It requires match funding for open programmes, with its grant covering at least half of the total project cost. The Foundation supports project delivery, research, equipment, travel, and living costs, but not core costs. It welcomes unsolicited applications for its open programmes.
