Magdalen and Lasher Charity

The charity funds projects that relieve poverty, hardship and distress for residents of the Borough of Hastings. Grants to organisations are normally for one-off specific projects that directly address these needs. The charity supports a range of activities that provide practical relief, such as emergency assistance, welfare advice, and outreach services. It also runs an Educational Foundation School Grants programme, which provides funding to schools in Hastings for projects that support pupils experiencing disadvantage. All funded work must directly benefit people living within the Borough of Hastings, and the charity prioritises initiatives that tackle immediate hardship and distress.

Individuals who are residents of the Borough of Hastings and in need, hardship or distress may apply for a grant. Organisations dealing directly with need, hardship and distress for residents of the Borough of Hastings are also eligible. The charity accepts applications on a rolling basis from both individuals and organisations. For organisations, the charity looks for groups that work directly with people experiencing poverty and hardship in Hastings. There is no restriction on religious affiliation, and both registered charities and community groups can apply.

The charity does not fund repayment of debts or loans, legal fees, funeral expenses (other than the cost of attending a funeral), or the purchase of vehicles or mini-buses. For organisations, ongoing commitments and general or recurring revenue funding are also excluded. Grants are not available for projects that take place outside the Borough of Hastings.
