Merriman Charitable Foundation

The Foundation funds work in three stated priority areas. First, young people and employability in London and North Yorkshire, with a particular focus on those not in education, employment or training (NEET). Second, international development overseas, especially projects that empower women and young people, advance education, and build sustainable enterprises. Third, environment and conservation in the UK and overseas, supporting community-led initiatives such as community energy, repair and reuse projects, and food waste reduction. Both core costs and project delivery costs are supported. The Foundation works across the UK and in overseas locations, with a particular emphasis on London and North Yorkshire.

Registered charities, community groups, and community interest companies can apply. The Foundation supports organisations working with young people, women, and the general public as beneficiaries. Applicants should be based in or delivering work in London, North Yorkshire, or overseas. There is no religious restriction. The Foundation encourages applications that align with its three focus areas and discourages speculative submissions outside those themes.

The Foundation does not fund animal-related causes. Applications outside its three stated focus areas—young people and employability, international development, and environment and conservation—are discouraged, and speculative submissions in other areas are unlikely to be successful.

The Foundation provides flexible funding, supporting both core costs and project delivery. Multi-year grants are available. There is no requirement for match funding. The Foundation welcomes unsolicited applications and makes decisions at the trustees’ discretion, valuing pragmatic and responsive support for frontline organisations.
