It funds holistic, sustainable solutions that address root causes of disadvantage. A notable focus is health research, with a significant commitment to diabetes research. Geographically, funding is concentrated in Merseyside, North Wales, North Shropshire, and Cheshire west of the M6. The Foundation supports medium-sized not-for-profits operating in these areas, with grants typically directed towards project costs, core funding, or capacity building.

The Foundation supports medium-sized not-for-profit organisations, such as charities and social enterprises, that are based or operating in its target geography of Merseyside, North Wales, North Shropshire, or Cheshire west of the M6. Priority beneficiaries are vulnerable children, young people, and families affected by poverty, inequality, or poor health. The Foundation looks for well-established organisations with a track record of delivering sustainable, evidence-led impact. There is no religious restriction on organisations, but the Foundation does not fund projects that promote religion.

The Foundation does not fund projects related to animal welfare, the arts, or environmental causes. It also does not support organisations that are primarily engaged in religious promotion. These exclusions reflect the Foundation's strategic focus on social disadvantage and health.

The Foundation works by invitation only and does not accept unsolicited applications. It prefers long-term partnerships and typically provides multi-year grants that can support project costs, core funding, or capacity building. The Foundation emphasises collaboration and systemic interventions, seeking to work with organisations that can deliver sustainable, evidence-led solutions.
