North East Area Miners' Social Welfare Trust Fund

The Trust supports relief from poverty and sickness, training, recreational activities and convalescence for miners and their dependents. It funds capital projects including refurbishments and maintenance of miners' welfare clubs, social centres and community facilities, as well as grants and interest-free loans for initiatives that preserve mining history and culture. Work is concentrated in the historic coalfield areas of North East England, with a focus on infrastructure upgrades, heritage safeguarding and community cohesion. All funded activities must benefit current or former coal miners and their dependents in these localities.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities and community groups based strictly in North East England's coalfield localities. The Trust favours established mining-linked organisations serving current or former miners, their families and dependents. There is no income threshold or religious restriction; both registered charities and unincorporated community groups may apply. A preference is shown for entities with roots in the mining community, though all qualifying organisations serving this beneficiary group are considered.

The Trust does not fund core costs, revenue funding or unrestricted support. Its focus is on capital projects and specific initiatives such as refurbishments, heritage preservation and welfare activities. General charitable appeals outside the mining community or for ongoing operational expenses are not supported.

Funding is by invitation only, directed to existing partners through trustee discretion. The Trust awards grants and interest-free loans for capital and heritage projects, made on an ad hoc basis. Unsolicited applications are not accepted, and there is no public application cycle or online process.
