Nostell Trust

The Trust funds targeted projects that enhance Nostell Priory and its estate. These include building upkeep, cyclical maintenance, and conservation of historic structures. It also supports the conservation of collections, such as the Dolls House, and the preservation of the surrounding landscape, lakes, and ecological environment. Educational resources, including signage and interpretation materials, are also funded. The Trust’s grant-making covers heritage conservation, arts, culture, and environmental initiatives, all strictly within the Priory and its immediate Wakefield surroundings. Supported work is typically capital or project-specific, such as repairs to historic fabric or conservation of art and artefacts. The hyper-local focus means that every funded activity must directly benefit the site and its setting, ensuring that all contributions are aligned with the long-term stewardship of Nostell Priory.

Primary beneficiaries are UK-registered charities and voluntary bodies, with the National Trust being the main recipient. The Trust works exclusively with existing partners and does not accept unsolicited applications. Organisations must be directly involved in the conservation, maintenance, or education work at Nostell Priory itself. The Trust tends to favour larger established heritage organisations, given the scale and nature of the projects it supports. All funded work must be within the Priory and its immediate Wakefield surroundings, so local roots in that area are essential. Non-charitable entities are not eligible.

The Trust does not fund projects outside Nostell Priory and its immediate Wakefield surroundings. It also excludes unrestricted or core costs, general activities, and any work not directly related to the site's conservation, education, or environmental management. Non-charitable organisations are not eligible for support.
