Presbyterian Children's Society

The Society funds a range of causes including poverty alleviation, hardship relief, education, skills development, mental health support, and community development. Supported activities include workshops on autism, behaviour management, stress, digital resilience, parent-toddler groups, English language support, and summer lunch clubs. Regular grants are paid quarterly to families to help with everyday living costs, while exceptional one-off grants cover urgent needs such as education expenses, funeral costs, debt repayments, clothing, and household expenses. The small grant scheme supports congregational projects that directly benefit children and families. All funding is directed to Presbyterian families and congregations on the island of Ireland.

Eligibility is limited to Presbyterian families on the island of Ireland who are in circumstances of need, as well as Presbyterian congregations seeking support for projects that serve children and families. Beneficiaries are children and young people from Presbyterian households. Families are identified and nominated by their local Presbyterian minister, who works closely with the Society. The Society does not accept applications from individuals or organisations outside the Presbyterian Church in Ireland network.

The Society does not fund non-Presbyterian families or organisations, external charities, or general charitable appeals. Regular and exceptional grants are only available to individual Presbyterian families, not to organisations. The small grant scheme is restricted to Presbyterian congregations. No funding is provided outside the island of Ireland.

Funding is delivered through three distinct routes: regular quarterly grants that are ongoing and reviewed periodically, exceptional one-off grants for urgent needs, and project-based grants to congregations via the small grant scheme. The Society works closely with Presbyterian ministers, who identify and nominate families in need. Grants are paid directly to families or to congregations for approved projects. This partnership approach ensures that support reaches those most in need within the Presbyterian community.
