Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Trust Charitable Fund

The fund supports the full breadth of work at Queen Victoria Hospital, from specialist clinical services to the environment patients experience. Priorities include state-of-the-art equipment, environmental upgrades, therapeutic camps for paediatric patients, psychological therapies, research, education and staff training. It also invests in hardship funds and staff wellbeing innovations such as Schwartz Rounds, alongside capital improvements and amenities for patients, families and staff.

The hospital serves patients across Kent, Surrey, Sussex and the South East of England, and some services reach a wider national catchment. Named restricted funds, including the John McCully Fund for burns care and the JK Fund for microsurgery, allow donors to support specific clinical areas. Proposals are assessed against hospital strategy and donor intentions, with no restrictions based on an applicant's location, income or size beyond the Trust's regional focus.

Only teams and departments within the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are eligible for funding. External charities, community groups and other organisations are not able to apply, and the fund does not accept unsolicited applications from outside the Trust. Proposals are considered when they align with the hospital's strategic priorities and with the intentions of donors.

The people ultimately supported are the hospital's patients, their families and the staff who care for them. There are no geographic, income or size criteria beyond the Trust's focus on its South East catchment, so any internal team with a well-matched idea can be considered.

The fund does not provide unrestricted or external core funding, nor does it support organisations or causes outside the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Unsolicited applications from external organisations, charities or community groups are not accepted. Funding is reserved for initiatives that are strategically aligned with the hospital and with donor intentions, so projects falling outside those parameters are unlikely to be considered.

Grant-making is directed exclusively at internal Trust initiatives, through internal processes rather than any open or public application route. Funding operates on a needs-led basis, with support taking the form of restricted funds for particular clinical areas, such as the John McCully Fund for burns care and the JK Fund for microsurgery. The emphasis is on sustainable, patient- and staff-centred impacts that cannot be achieved through standard NHS funding alone.
